KwaDukuza Mayor welcomes R350 million set for the expansion of Hesto Harnesses plant in Shakaskraal

KwaDukuza Mayor Siduduzo Gumede welcomes the R350 million commitment set for the expansion of manufacturing capacity and warehousing by Shreeprop in Shakaskraal of which Hesto Harnesses is a key tenant.

"We welcome the overwhelming confidence that the private sector continues to place in the local economy and this is evidenced by the investment of an additional R350 million towards the expansion of industrial capacity located in the Woodmead Industrial Park in Shakaskraal", he said.

A total of R620 million has already been contributed to the local economy through the property ownership of Shree Property Holdings. The Woodmead plant is a key manufacturing facility for Hesto Harnesses, currently employing over 800 residents from the local community.

An additional investment has been committed towards the construction of six new industrial and logistical facilities in the industrial park over the next twelve months.

This was announced today, 05 May 2026, as KwaDukuza Mayor convened a bilateral with the leadership of Hesto Harnesses, Shree Property Holdings and the iLembe Chamber of Commerce earlier today in the Woodmead Industrial Park.

Gumede added, “We always needed this partnership, especially if it’s a partnership that is trying to protect the jobs that have already been created. This will ensure that in the future we can still be able to create more, we just need a conducive environment for investors to be able to have confidence in us. I really appreciate the opportunity to partner with you. We want to commit that we will continue to play our oversight in that we build investor confidence.

Managing Director for Shree Property Holdings said the state of the art development targets key industries within the logistics and manufacturing environment. "We see the Woodmead Industrial Park as a catalyst for tangible job creation".

One of the key resolutions of this bilateral was the agreement to build stronger and more structured ties to ensure the long-term success and protection of local jobs and to boost the economy.

The visit was part of the Mayoral Investor After Care Programme which which was established to ensure that investors and businesses operating within the municipality are retained and are actively supported.
