MEDIA ADVISORY: KWADUKUZA MAYOR TO LEAD A TWO-DAY ENERGY INDABA

The mayor of KwaDukuza, Cllr. Lindile Nhaca will from, 09-10 November 2023, lead a high-level conversation on energy security as the municipality hosts its two-day Energy Indaba that is set to focus on promoting efficiency in the supply of energy in KwaDukuza Municipality.

The Indaba will zoom in on a wide range of critical topics to advance the municipality's alternative energy policy and to address energy losses, development challenges and ways to stabilise supply.

The Indaba will outline the role of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), scrutinise the small-scale embedded generation policy, and chart a way forward on the proposed tariffs of charges, and incentives for alternative energy.

Illegal connections, meter tempering, reduction of technical faults, and unplanned outages will be at the centre of the conversation. The rollout of the SCADA automation system & control centre for KwaDukuza will also receive attention.

The event will be attended by a high powered delegation of the municipal council, NERSA, ESKOM, COGTA, and key role-players and stakeholders within the energy value chain.

The Indaba will culminate into an energy action plan that must be implemented by the municipality, in line with the recently adopted policies aligned with the Just Energy transition.
