Media statement - KwaDukuza Municipality disappointed by illegal protest earlier today

KwaDukuza Municipality wishes to express its disappointment following the latest protest this morning, 06 December 2023, which took place ahead of the scheduled council meeting that was to commence at 09:00.

The circumstances behind the protest are still unclear since the political leadership of KwaDukuza did not get a proper platform to address the crowd which had without the approval of the administration - gained entry into the KwaDukuza Town Hall where the meeting was to be convened.

The Municipal Manager has described the incident as unfortunate, “We wish to express our disappointment on the unfortunate incident which occurred in inside the KwaDukuza Town Hall this morning ahead of the council meeting. The crowd was instructed by the South African Police Services to vacate the facility to allow for the meeting to proceed. The crowd which had gathered along the parameters of the Hall became unruly which prevented the council from conducting its business. KwaDukuza Municipality reserves its right to not further comment on this matter as the issue or issues are not clear at this point in time”, said Nhlanhla Mdakane.
