KwaDukuza mayor applauds ‘Matric Class of 2023’ as Ilembe District achieves 88.6% - a noteworthy growth of 4.7%


The Ilembe District has been named amongst the best performing districts in the 2023 National Senior Certificate results and number three in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) with an above average pass result of 88.6% - a monumental improvement from 83.9% from the previous year (2022). 

KwaDukuza Mayor Lindile Nhaca has welcomed the outcomes, congratulating the class of 2023 and stakeholders for working together to achieve a common goal.

"It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest congratulations to the learners of Ilembe District for their remarkable performance. The attainment of this outcome bears testimony to our collective commitment. We are indeed witnessing a significant moment in our country’s history since the dawn of democracy.

District outlook

We must point out that Ilembe district follows Ugu District at 89.5% and Umkhanyakude District in the first position at 90%. The Ilembe district experienced a 4.7% rise from the previous year’s results which clearly underlines monumental growth despite a vast array of challenges. We wish the KwaDukuza Matric class of 2023 the best and we also urge all matriculants to take advantage of our 2024 bursary offering which grants qualifying learners’ an amount of R8 000.00 towards their studies.

Provincial outlook

Nationally, KZN claimed the second position at 86.4% after Free State which obtained 89%. We wish to commend the department led by Minister Angie Motshekga, the KZN MEC for Education in the province, Mbali Frazer, the district head, parents and other stakeholders who contributed towards such overwhelming performance. We have been assured that these results will be become commonplace, and the district together with the province at large will grow to become a formidable force.
