KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has conferred two awards to KwaDukuza Local Municipality for Best Sustained Financial Management, and Best Cleanest Township and Best Waste Management Outreach Programme at the occasion of the Municipal Excellence Awards last night, 13 February 2024 in Pietermaritzburg.

The department named Shakaville and Lindelani as the provinces cleanest township together with best wate management outreach programme. KwaDukuza has indeed remained the most financially sound municipality in the province according to the latest Municipal Financial Stability Index prepared by Ratings Africa.

KwaDukuza mayor Lindile Nhaca was thrilled by the news that her municipality has once again heightened confidence to the people in the province as an area of investment and tourism.

Best Sustained Financial Management Award

Nhaca remarked this afternoon, 14 February 2024, “We are jovial and high spirited on the news that KwaDukuza is leading the way on financial sustainability in the province. This clearly reflects our commitment at enforcing strict controls, maintaining a strong liquidity position, practicing effective budgeting, achieving operational excellence, managing liabilities, and combating maladministration."

KwaDukuza's receipt of this accolade also signifies the municipality's strong commitment to implementing effective financial policies and adopting budgetary plans that are grounded in sound long-term financial strategies.

We also appreciate the recognition of Shakaville and Lindelani township in the category of the cleanest township with best wate management outreach programme. These are the some of the gains of our Programme for Change which consists of several pillars aimed at addressing waste management challenges,” said Nhaca.

I am thrilled about the progress we are making for our people. Such accolades are not only attractive but true to our long-term goal of repositioning KwaDukuza to become the face of the province and the preferred tourism destination in the country.
