Masakhane Campaign rollout commences
KwaDukuza Municipality today, 13 February 2024, kicked-off its Masakhane Campaign - a revenue enhancement strategy to improve service delivery in partnership with communities.
Masakhane places people’s participation at the centre of development, characterised by multiple areas of improvements of services. The programme mobilises communities to participate in revenue generation and governance to ensure sustainable development and nation building.
Today, we focused on Ward 19 (KwaDukuza Central Business District) where we delivered on basic services and enforcement of bylaws. We dealt with refuse removal, electricity disconnections, municipal roads maintenance, street lighting, maintenance of municipal parks, crime prevention, and traffic control.
We have experienced huge amounts of revenue loses over the years and still continue. This campaign will increase participation of communities so that they contribute to the effective delivery of service through education initiatives and to ensure enforcement of Council’s By-laws and policies.
I must emphasise that our communities need to play a role in the development of their areas and it equally remains our responsibility to educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities - to enhance co-operation and partnerships.
Masakhane calls upon us all to work as a collective in order to attain prosperity for all.
Masakhane was adopted as a national campaign in 1994 to encourage citizens to participate in a new system of government which encouraged civil society and communities to serve as change agents in their areas.
