Media Advisory: KwaDukuza mayor to honour unsung heroes at the Masakhane Awards ceremony

KwaDukuza mayor Lindile Nhaca will on Wednesday, 20 March 2024, host the inaugural Masakhane Awards Ceremony in honour of unsung heroes within the municipality who have demonstrated stellar community service over the years.

The mayor will use this occasion to pay tribute to the tireless efforts of men and women who have had made the community of KwaDukuza a better place.

One by one, the mayor will recount stories of individuals who had gone above and beyond the call of duty, and to those who have selflessly dedicating their time and energy to serve the community.

The awards will be a fitting tribute to volunteers who have helped transform the lives of countless children, activists who provided compassionate care to the vulnerable during a time of need, and the group of volunteers who help restore order, provided aid and confidence to the people.

The event will ignite conversations and inspire a new wave of community spirit that will foster support for development initiatives inspired by the Masakhane campaign which seeks to encourage all residence to pay for municipal services.

Masakhane calls upon the people and government to work as a collective towards building sustainable communities. The mayor will be using this platform to ask for commitments so that we are able to recover the large amounts of revenue that it is still owed to council.

The mayor will also be recognising exceptional contributions from a number of stakeholders who have played a critical role and continue to do so in the current office tenure.

Most of such stories have remained a mystery to many, and this will be the platform which the mayor will use to unpack such stories - of those who have silently worked behind the scenes - impacting lives without seeking recognition.

“The council of KwaDukuza will be reminding the people of KwaDukuza about the extraordinary power of selfless acts and the profound impact one could make even in the shadows. We will be unpacking the identity of the ones who had silently changed lives and left an indelible mark in their communities.

It is in their anonymity that their true power lies and it is this spirit that we will be showering admiration towards these unsung heroes. I invite you to join me in the Awards Ceremony to acknowledge organizations and individuals who continue bringing positive change to society”, said Nhaca.

Indeed, the sun is to cast an orange glow where scores will be gathered at the KwaDukuza Town hall to experience the intriguing inaugural event on Wednesday. The hall is expected to be filled with heartwarming stories of courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication.

Members of media are invited to attend the event which is organised as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 20 March 2024

Venue: KwaDukuza Town Hall

Time: 17:00 evening

Masakhane is a strategic partnership between government and the people for the enhancement of municipal revenue and delivery of services. Masakhane requires communities to play a role in the development of their areas.
