KwaDukuza mayor appreciates Mrs Zanele Dlamini-Mbeki for her contribution towards women empowerment since the dawn of democracy

KwaDukuza mayor Lindile Nhaca has shared her words of gratitude with the former first lady of the Republic of South Africa, Mrs Zanele Dlamini-Mbeki for her selfless contributions towards the empowerment of women.


Both leaders met this morning, 23 August 2024, during the Zenzele Development Workshop that is organised by the Women Development Business Trust (WDB) Trust, an NGO that was founded by Dlamini-Mbeki in 1992 which is dedicated towards uplifting women out of poverty.

 

"We thank you for adding more chapters towards strengthening democracy over the years, and for ensuring that our local women are empowered through the Zenzele Development Programme.

 

Since the historic democratic transition to democracy in 1994, women leaders of your calibre have made tremendous progress towards building a more inclusive and equitable society.

 

Together, we need to continue to rally behind women and ensure that their rights are fully upheld and respected.

 

We also recognise the need for women to embrace unity of purpose as we consolidate the gains of our democracy. This is informed by the well documented unity of the women of 1956. Your efforts are therefore a clarion call for women to emulate the women of 1956 by uniting once again in fighting poverty.

Let’s continue to work together in uniting our people; let's protect and empower our women and let’s build a society that is better, and that is prosperous by linking poor communities to developmental opportunities", said Nhaca.

The Zenzele Development Programme (Zenzele) is a poverty reduction system for local communities which connects poor families to a basket of services through stakeholder engagement.

KwaDukuza Mayor discusses investments and cooperation in bilateral with Gledhow Sugar Company

As KwaDukuza Mayor Siduduzo Gumede is engaging with investors and big business in a bid to strengthen corporation and to build stronger partnerships as part of his Mayoral Investor After-Care Initiative under his Turnaround  Service Delivery  Improvement Plan. His first engagement was convened at the Gledhow Sugar Company where he has opened a dialogue on matters of mutual interests, with a particular focus on economic development of the local municipality and its people. The mayor is using this opportunity to establish an ongoing conversation with the sugar mill company that has received an injection close to R1.8-billion under a new investor, Chatthe Group.
