Audio: KwaDukuza mayor building a united front in fight against fraud and corruption

KwaDukuza mayor S'duduzo Gumede has vowed to fighting fraud and corruption jointly with councillors and his administration, to guarantee clean governance and accountability.

“I want to promise all of you, that we will be working with all councillors to root out corruption in this municipality... The other issue that is important to us, that is going to be our focus, is financial sustainability. Because, we should be financially viable if we are to deliver quality services”. Full soundbite available here (12:27)

One of his key areas of focus when he took office fifty-five (55) days ago was to ensure cross-party collaboration and stability. In his address, he emphasised that local government is not about party politics but about delivery.

“The first observation one made was that we needed to have political stability in council so that meetings can sit and councillors can have time to engage so that all of us can play oversight… we want to keep it that way so that we are able to play our oversight because we are involved in local government and local government is not about party politics, it’s about delivering services to the people”, he was addressing scores at Umhlali Prepatory School as part of the review of the IDP and budget last night, 22 October 2025.

Gumede also committed to report regularly on his inclusive turnaround service delivery improvement plan which seeks to deal with energy losses, strengthen partnerships, close revenue leakages, maintain infrastructure, create jobs, grow the economy, and ensure the enhancement of the municipality’s financial viability and quality delivery for all sectors of society including youth.
