KwaDukuza mayor leading the charge in rejecting preliminary municipal boundary outcomes
The council of KwaDukuza has rejected without reservations, the preliminary outcomes on the redetermination of boundaries for KwaDukuza municipal Wards into 2026 by the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB).
The council sustains a view that the preliminary outcomes should not be accepted as they differ strongly from its initial proposal. Should they be given the nod in their current state, the results would have an adverse impact on development for certain areas.
The outcomes were gazetted under notice number 2851 on 02 October 2025, confirming 155,646 registered KwaDukuza voters and 30 municipal ward. The notice extended an invitation for any concerned party to object the outcomes in writing within a period of 14 days of publication of the notice. The delimitation outcomes were brought before council yesterday, 14 October 2025, for consideration and were unanimously rejected as they do not reflect Council’s first draft submission.
KwaDukuza Mayor S’duduzo Gumede is leading the charge in rejecting the outcome, calling on communities to weigh in on the Council’s position.
“We want the Demarcation Board to review this outcome based on contributions from stakeholders and communities. Frankly, the boundaries are difficult to understand, they are bound to hinder integrated development, and stifle progress as they precisely fail to reflect on the lived realities of our people. We are therefore making a call for our communities to join us in rejecting this outcome. This is the last window of opportunity, heed the call and take action. Together we can do more”, said Gumede.
The public is invited to make objections by completing the prescribed MDB 5 form available on the MDB website by 16 October 2025.
