Media statement - KwaDukuza mayor stoked by progress of Mgigimbe and Sihle Phakathi housing projects.

KwaDukuza mayor S’duduzo Gumede has given a nod of approval for the Mgigimbe Informal Settlement Upgrade Project in Ward 09, and the Sihle Phakathi Housing Project in Ward 24, currently under development.

He was accompanied by a high-powered delegation composed of members of the executive and the portfolio committee on Youth, Sport, Economic Development and Planning in Ward 24 earlier today, 21 October 2024.
The visit forms part of Operation Siyahlola which coincides with the mayor’s 100 Days in Office initiative.
“We are happy that the two projects are moving and this is a good reflection of progress. We are using Operation Siyahlola as a monitoring tool for projects delivery where it has become even more than necessary for us as councillors to champion the delivery of basic infrastructure and services. What we are witnessing today is indeed impressive. The high quality delivery is an indication of our commitment in delivering decent human settlements. The standard of Mgimibe housing must be replicated across our human settlements value chain".
The mayor used the Mgigimbe chapter to wish Mr. Sipho Dlamini (100), who will be turning 101 years on Friday, 24th of October 2025, a happy birthday in advance.

“We take this opportunity to wish mkhulu a happy birthday as he turns 100 this week. We are blessed to have him as one of the beneficiaries. Mkhulu deserves this early birthday present which signifies security of tenure and restoration of dignity", said Gumede.
The mayor will be conducting regular oversight visits to infrastructure sites, to highlight the municipality's focus and progress as a performance-oriented government, ensuring that public infrastructure delivery is accelerated.
