Joint media and public statement - Breakthrough agreement brokered on Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort recruitment process

KwaDukuza Mayor S’duduzo Gumede and representatives of the Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort this evening, 21 January 2026, reached a breakthrough agreement following public concerns over perceived unfair recruitment involving Ward 12, 20 and 22.

The bilateral meeting acknowledged that the initial employment process for the construction phase at Club Med prioritised only three wards due to their close proximity to the new resort development and in line with practices that have been applied in similar projects within KwaDukuza.

The intervention recognised the sensitivity of the matter and the need for an amicable resolution that takes into account the interests of the broader KwaDukuza community, particularly in light of the limited employment opportunities available during the current phase of recruitment.

The Mayor used this engagement to reaffirm his commitment towards providing strategic oversight as the resort continues to serve as a catalytic socio-economic development project within the municipality. He acknowledged the significant contributions that are already being made by the Club Med development towards sustainable job creation, skills development, small business growth, tourism growth  and broader economic inclusion.

The Club Med development team, in turn, reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Mayor and the KwaDukuza municipal leadership to maximise opportunities for meaningful local community participation through open, fair and transparent processes.

In line with these principles, the meeting resolved to expand the current recruitment process to include all residents of the KwaDukuza municipal area. As of next week, a new advertisement will be placed on local print and digital platforms through the appointed recruitment service provider, Summit.

This process will be undertaken in accordance with the conventional recruitment model adopted by the KwaDukuza Council, which supports inclusive recruitment across the municipality. This model has been successfully implemented in previous catalytic projects. Accordingly, all post-construction phase employment opportunities will be open to all bona fide residents of KwaDukuza.

Residents who have already applied during the initial phase of recruitment will not be required to reapply. Prospective applicants are advised that employment opportunities during the current phase are limited, and residents are therefore urged to exercise patience and adhere strictly to the guidelines contained in the recruitment advertisement.

The Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort development team has committed to continuing its collaboration with the KwaDukuza Municipality and key stakeholders to ensure the successful launch of the project later this year.
