The long wait is over as KwaDukuza Mayor commits to accelerate the Shakaspring Subsidised Housing Project to yield 590 housing units

No more delays as KwaDukuza Mayor Siduduzo Gumede commits to reconstitute the project steering committee into Shakaspring Subsidised Housing Project located in Stanger Manor - with official processes underway for the construction of 590 houses.

“This informal community will never be the same again as hundreds will benefit through the accelerated human settlements delivery approach. We are expediting processes and we will quickly reconstitute the Project Steering Committee to ensure that the project has proper oversight and that all activities are monitored as we will no longer accept delays”, said Gumede speaking during a public meeting had in Stanger Manor earlier today, 19 April 2026.

The project will cover beneficiaries from ward 05, 17 and 18 with a total
planning budget amounting to R1,5 million. Residents that are currently located within the Stanger Manor informal settlements will be relocated to the new site once the project is completed. The project will consist of active open space, conservation area, a community hall & ECD centre, passive open space, bulk water, roads, a reservoir and a place of worship.

The project is currently at SPLUMA consultative stage where the community is afforded an opportunity to make inputs about the project.
