KwaDukuza Mayor welcomes R350 million set for the expansion of Hesto Harnesses plant in Shakaskraal

KwaDukuza Mayor Siduduzo Gumede welcomes the R350 million commitment set for the expansion of manufacturing capacity and warehousing by Shreeprop in Shakaskraal of which Hesto Harnesses is a key tenant.   "We welcome the overwhelming confidence that the private sector continues to place in the local economy and this is evidenced by the investment of an additional R350 million towards the expansion of industrial capacity located in the Woodmead Industrial Park in Shakaskraal", he said.   A total of R620 million has already been contributed to the local economy through the property ownership of Shree Property Holdings. KwaDukuza Mayor intensifies fight against lawlessness including the fight against fraud and corruption

KwaDukuza Mayor Siduduzo Gumede is using the Service Delivery Turnaround Improvement Plan to deal with criminal elements involving illicit trade, violations to municipal bylaws, tackling illegal immigration, fighting fraud and corruption. “Working with various role-players, the municipality is actively involved in activities to deal with lawlessness, fraud and corruption through ongoing enforcement operations and through  investigations within the municipality. The implementation of the Service Delivery Turnaround Improvement Plan is surely accelerating our responses to the long held concerns by the public and indeed a lot of effort is being put in coordinating efforts to deal with maladministration and criminality”. Media statement: KwaDukuza Municipality hosts a law enforcement operation, leading to the arrest of six illegal immigrants

KwaDukuza Municipality is working with various law enforcement agencies to turn the tide against criminality and violation of its bylaws within the KwaDukuza Central Business District. This after it seized counterfeit goods amounting to R 1500 000.00 last week during a multi-pronged operation with various state agencies and private security companies. Five illegal immigrants were arrested. One suspect was charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm with six rounds of live ammunition. One of the suspects was found in possession of two (2) red and white capsules and five pieces of crystal meth. Another suspect was charged with theft as he was in possession of various stolen goods. On a separate account, a suspect was arrested for attempted murder. Four vehicles were impounded after being found abandoned on the roadside by illegal mechanics including 31 notices issued for various road traffic violations. Hosted on site and attended by municipal leadership, officials and project stakeholders, the event signals the formal completion of the development phase of the 54,000 square metre resort, which comprises of 64 buildings and represents a landmark investment on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast. The occupation certificate follows an extensive regulatory and compliance process involving the submission, review and approval of a substantial volume of documentation over time. No more delays as KwaDukuza Mayor Siduduzo Gumede commits to reconstitute the project steering committee into Shakaspring Subsidised Housing Project located in Stanger Manor - with official processes underway for the construction of 590 houses.   “This informal community will never be the same again as hundreds will benefit through the accelerated human settlements delivery approach. His first engagement was convened at the Gledhow Sugar Company where he has opened a dialogue on matters of mutual interests, with a particular focus on economic development of the local municipality and its people. The mayor is using this opportunity to establish an ongoing conversation with the sugar mill company that has received an injection close to R1.8-billion under a new investor, Chatthe Group. This was announced as the mill was re-opened last week, following a successful business rescue process that was initiated in 2023. The intervention has saved jobs in the hundreds.
