Media statement - Deputy mayor announces zero increase on rates

SHAKAVILLE: KwaDukuza Municipality provides a total of 6,348 households with free electricity, 12,853 households receive free refuse removal, and now there’s a zero increase rates proposal for the 2025-2026 financial year. This was announced by the deputy mayor of KwaDukuza, Sicelinjabulo Cele at the 2025-2026 Integrated Development Plan and Budget Imbizo held at the Mbozamo Community Hall this morning, 15 April 2025. In addition to this, there’s a proposed decrease in rates rebates at an average of 25% to 18%, a 7.3% increase on refuse revenue and an average increase of 10.7% on electricity. The economy is experiencing sluggish growth, coupled with the general rising costs of living, increased unemployment rates, rising energy prices, and the impact of natural calamities which significantly impede customer ability to repay debts and undermines councils’ ability to deliver adequate services. Public statement: A resonance of warm wishes for new KwaDukuza office bearers

This morning, the mayor of KwaDukuza, Ali Muzi Ngidi chaired his first executive committee meeting where he was welcomed with congratulatory messages by his counterparts, including municipal officials following his election as the municipal mayor during a special council meeting that was held yesterday. In his opening address, Ngidi remarked, “We have been given a responsibility to unite council. Regardless of what might have happened before, we need to steer this ship back to the seas. We need each other. KwaDukuza mayor Lindile Nhaca has extended her gratitude to the deputy minister for Employment and Labor, Jomo Sibiya on his commitment to use his department to support existing investments and enable the creation of new jobs. Mayor Nhaca was addressing a multi-stakeholder engagement at the Hesto Harnesses Toyota plant which is the municipality’s biggest employer with over 8500 workers. Nhaca also emphasised the need for corporation amongst stakeholders to sustain current jobs while committing to provide municipal support to secure more investments. “I'm happy minister that you are here to listen to us. Media statement: KwaDukuza mayor welcomes robust assessments over service delivery challenges

KwaDukuza mayor Lindile Nhaca has welcomed recommendations  of the multi-party committee of the KZN Legislature which has been deployed over two-days to oversee critical service delivery  challenges. Today, 19 September 2024, the delegation visited Nonoti in Ward 03, where it appreciated the public-private partnership between KwaDukuza and Inqaba Community Trust on the Nonoti Beach Node that is under phase one of  development .  The municipality entered into an agreement with the Inqaba  Community  Trust to build the very first post-1994 public beach facilities. With this agreement,  the municipal council identified the node as a launchpad for expanding its tourism footprint along the coastal economic corridor. The committee also visited the Hullet Bridge in Darnall, Ward 02 where it  noted the strides being made and acknowledged challenges which have resulted to the delays. On behalf of the community of KwaDukuza and the council, we welcome all delegates to the jewel of the province of KwaZulu-Natal. We are the fastest growing municipality in the province and we continue to sustain this status based on our ability to deliver services, enable investments and manage our finances.
